Here, we aim to provide clear, reassuring answers to help you feel confident and informed about our approach and services in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
Your questions answered
It's natural to have questions, whether you're just considering holistic support or ready to book a session. We believe in transparency and empowering you with knowledge. Below, you'll find comprehensive answers to the most important topics, reflecting the ethos of Beyond. . . All things Holistic.
Is holistic therapy evidence-based and professional?
At Beyond, holistic doesn’t mean ungrounded. Our approaches are trauma-aware and informed by nervous system science. Our practitioners are qualified and experienced, integrating breathwork, somatic tools, and wellbeing coaching with a foundation in regulation science and ethical practice. It's integrative and informed, not alternative.
Will I feel safe — emotionally and psychologically?
Your safety is our priority. Our approach is always: Safety before strategy, consent before depth, and regulation before exploration. You will never be pushed too fast, and you move at your own pace. We create a secure space for emotional and psychological wellbeing.
What actually happens in a session?
Sessions are guided, collaborative, and responsive. They might be reflective and insight-based, or focus on nervous system regulation through breath and somatic awareness, often blending both. There is always grounding, integration, and practical takeaways – not just conversation.
Will this actually work for someone like me?
Many clients feel "off" or have "tried therapy before." We provide relevance, real-world application, and aim for sustainable change, not just temporary relief. We help high-functioning individuals, those experiencing burnout, and anyone seeking to understand themselves better.
Will I become dependent on your services?
Our ethos is empowerment over dependency. The goal at Beyond. . . All things Holistic is to help you build internal capacity and provide tools you can carry independently, fostering self-reliance rather than creating reliance on sessions.
Is this worth the investment?
Holistic therapy is an investment of time, energy, vulnerability, and finances. Clients seek clarity, calmness, self-understanding, and improved relationships, work, or general wellbeing. We ensure this is a space where your growth is respected, not rushed.
What type of massage is right for me?
Before any massage treatment, we conduct a consultation to understand your lifestyle, stress levels, physical tension, injuries, and nervous system state. This ensures your treatment is intentional and tailored, whether you need Swedish, hot stone, lymphatic drainage, or de-stress massage techniques.
Will massage treatment be painful?
Treatments are always collaborative. Pressure is adjusted to your tolerance, and communication is encouraged throughout. The aim is release and regulation, especially with tension-focused or deep tissue work, not endurance or unnecessary discomfort.
What happens in the first massage session?
Your first appointment includes a short consultation covering your health history, areas of tension or injury, stress levels, lifestyle factors, and desired outcomes. This ensures the massage is safe, tailored, and aligned with your personal goals.
What should I expect after a massage session?
Many clients report feeling physically lighter, more mobile, deeply relaxed, and emotionally calmer. Massage supports nervous system regulation, so improved sleep and reduced stress are common. Aftercare advice, including hydration and gentle movement, is always provided.
Is Beyond massage just physical?
No, at Beyond. . . All things Holistic, massage isn’t just muscular – it’s holistic. We understand chronic tension is often linked to stress patterns and nervous system dysregulation. We may gently explore breath patterns, stress triggers, and lifestyle contributors if helpful, always with your consent.
What if I need specialist support beyond massage?
An important part of ethical holistic practice is recognising our scope. If something arises that would benefit from additional specialist support, we openly discuss appropriate signposting to physiotherapists, osteopaths, GPs, counsellors, or nutritionists. Your wellbeing is our priority.
What makes Beyond’s approach unique?
Our approach at Beyond. . . All things Holistic was born from personal trauma and deep reflection. Massage became a gateway to reconnection, helping the body soften and the nervous system feel safe. We offer a body-first, nervous system-aware, trauma-informed, and consent-led approach focused on sustainable regulation.
Tell me about your charity work for mental health.
We believe wellbeing support shouldn't be a privilege. Our charity aims to make holistic treatments, especially massage and nervous system support, accessible for mental health. We remove stigma, increase access to therapeutic bodywork, provide preventative support, and offer workshops to shift holistic care from "treat" to "tool."
Does 'holistic' mean it’s not professional or evidence-based?
This is a common misunderstanding. At Beyond, holistic simply means we treat the whole person, not just the symptom. Our work is grounded in nervous system understanding, trauma awareness, and ethical practice. It's about integration – science and compassion coexisting – not replacing medical support.
Is massage a luxury?
We challenge this notion. For many, including our founder, therapeutic massage is regulating and restorative, especially for those holding trauma or chronic stress. It helps the body shift out of high alert. This is why our charity exists – to recognise it as accessible mental health support, not just an indulgence.
Will you make me talk about things I’m not ready to?
Absolutely not. Beyond. . . All things Holistic is built on consent and pacing. No one is ever pushed to share more than they are comfortable with. Sometimes we work purely with breath and body, sometimes we focus on stress patterns, and sometimes we simply create space. Safety always comes first.
I should be coping fine on my own, right?
Many of our clients are high-functioning and responsible, but functioning isn’t the same as feeling regulated. Beyond isn't about "fixing" people; it's about creating a safe space for you to reconnect with yourself and build the nervous system capacity to meet life without constantly being in survival mode.
Ready to find your calm?
We hope these answers have provided clarity and reassurance. At Beyond. . . All things Holistic, we are committed to offering professional, compassionate, and effective support. If you're ready to experience a unique approach to wellbeing, we're here to guide you.
